In today’s era of globalization, English language proficiency has become a crucial life skill for young people. This is because English is not only a means of communication but also a key to unlocking opportunities for young people to enter various fields of life, including art, technology, business, and education.

One way to channel students’ English language talents is through competitions. This is closely related to opportunities for students to grow, learn, and show their abilities. Through English competitions, students not only enhance their academic skill but also build self-confidence, creativity, and language skills, equipping them for the future.

In this spirit, SMPN 136 proudly celebrated the achievements of its students in the sub-district-level of Suku Dinas Pendidikan Jakarta Utara Wilayah  English competition held at SMPN 170 on September 27, 2025. This English competition consisted of academic and non-academic skills. The academic English competition tested listening and critical reading skills, while the non-academic competitions included inspirational storytelling, speeches, and presentations. Among the many participating schools, SMPN 136 stood out with its outstanding achievements. In the critical reading category, two of our students brought home awards. M. Hanif Abisatya placed as second winner in critical reading for grade 7, and M. Wildan Almukholad placed as third winner in critical reading for grade 8.

This achievement is certainly a source a pride for both the students and the school. Of course, this doesn’t make us complacent, as the saying goes, ‘It is easier to achieve than to maintain.’ This wisdom serves as a reminder and a motivation for us to continue improving and innovating in developing our students’ skills and abilities, so that they can pursue even greater accomplishments in the future.
